ObituariesLyle WelcherLyle L. Welcher of Chandler died Feb. 18, 2002. He was 92. He was born in Minneapolis and moved to Arizona in 1945 from Illinois. He was a retired Salt River Project employee. He was a member of Fraternal Order of Police, Phoenix Jaycees and a charter commander of the Sun Lakes Sheriff's Posse.Survivors include his wife, Muriel; daughters, Susan Wortman of Casa Grande, Pollye Rohr of Chandler, and Barbara Corn of Scottsdale; son, Howard of Phoenix; twelve grandchildren; and six grandchildren. Services were held at Sinai Mortuary Chapel, with Rabbi Andrew Straus officiating. Arrangements were by Sinai Mortuary. Contributions are suggested to Neely Ray Hospice House, 13639 E. Ray Road, Gilbert 85233. Phyllis CooperPhyllis Cooper of Tempe died Feb. 15, 2002. She was 95. She was born in St. Paul, Minn., and moved to Arizona in 1975. She was a retired piano teacher, a life member of Hadassah and a member of Temple Beth Israel.Survivors include her son, Jason of Tempe. Services were held at Beth El Cemetery, with Rabbi Albert Plotkin officiating. Arrangements were by Sinai Mortuary. Contributions are suggested to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix 85014. Sara SlovinSara A. Slovin of Phoenix died Feb. 15, 2002. She was 85. She was born in Worcester, Mass., and moved to Arizona in 1986. She was a retired employee of the Worcester Public School system.Survivors include her daughter, Elaine Kaplan of Worcester; son, Alan of Mission Viejo, Calif.; and three grandchildren. Services were held at National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, with Rabbi Martin S. Scharf officiating. Arrangements were by Sinai Mortuary. Stanley Irving SteiermanStanley Irving Steierman upon High School graduation professed "Master of human destinies am I, Fame, Love and Fortune on my footsteps wait." an achievement fulfilled.Born February 4, 1918 in New York City, New York, his destiny continued by his insight into the value of a fine education with a Bachelor of Arts degree, service to his country in the US Air Force, and then for love and fortune married and moved to Phoenix in 1949. He established Beašs Lamps, naming it after his wife, it is a successful business handed down to his family. Stanley loved cruise ship trips with his wife, was passionate for dining with his daughter and her husband, always caught the first and bigger fish on father-son bonding trips, enjoyed Disneyland trips with his grandchildren, created hilarity from a good yarn with his friends, and always had the most remarkably infectious smile for everyone. Stanley passed away on February 14 at the age of 84. Stanley is survived by his wife Beatrice, Daughter Flora, son Herbert, and grandchildren Doug and Susie. Graveside services were held on Sunday, February 17, 2002 in Phoenix.
