Chorale rounds up performers

The Arizona Jewish Community Chorale, a performing group sponsored by the Jewish Studies Institute of the Bureau of Jewish Education, is accepting singers for its class that begins 7:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4, at Temple Solel, 6805 E. McDonald Drive, Paradise Valley.

Baruch L. Koritan, cantorial soloist of Temple Beth Shalom of the Northwest Valley, and Ruth Dubinbaum-Koritan, professor of voice at Scottsdale College, will teach the class and prepare the singers for performances at future community events.

Songs in several languages, including Hebrew, Ladino and Yiddish, will be studied.

The class meets Mondays through April 1, with no class on Feb. 25.

Cost is $60, discounts are available.

Hillel photo contest

"Jewish Images: The Debra Goldstein Memorial Photography Contest" sponsored by the Hillel Jewish Student Center at Arizona State University, is accepting submissions of photography which express Judaism in an original manner by portraying images that creatively represent Judaic themes or Jewish life.

The contest is open to amateur photographers who are Valley undergraduate and graduate students.

A brief description must accompany the 8"x10" clip-framed black and white or color photographs. Photos must be developed from a negative - no photocopies will be accepted.

Cash prizes will be awarded: $500 first place; $250 second place; $100 third place; and four $50 honorable mentions. Winners' artwork will be displayed at Hillel's annual benefit, Chai Caliente, on May 5.

The contest is in memory of Debra Goldstein, a former ASU student.

The deadline is April 12. Mail to Hillel Jewish Student Center, 1012 S. Mill Ave., Tempe, AZ 85281.

Cantor concert

"It's a Grand Night for Singing," the third annual cantor's concert which features Cantor Julie Berlin of Temple Solel in Paradise Valley and Cantor Evan Kent of Temple Isaiah in Los Angeles, will be presented 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, at Temple Solel, 6805 E. McDonald Drive.

The concert will include music from stage and screen with selections honoring composer Richard Rodgers.

The concert will be performed cabaret style and includes dessert and coffee.

Tickets are $15 in advance, $18 at the door, $10 students.

Hadassah museum tour

Hadassah Valley of the Sun, Rabin group, has arranged a guided tour of the Phoenix Art Museum at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, at the museum, 1625 N. Central Ave.

Itzhak Perlman

Violinist Itzhak Perlman will perform at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, at Arizona State University's Sundome Center for the Performing Arts, 19403 R.H. Johnson Blvd., Sun City West.
