SpeedDating program introduces singles

A program arranging seven dates in 90 minutes for single Jewish men and women is coming to Phoenix.
SpeedDating, a program initiated in Los Angeles by the international Jewish educational network Aish HaTorah, will hold its first session, for ages 25-35, at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, at a caf‚ near Scottsdale Fashion Square.
A second session, for ages 40-55, will take place 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7. This session is already full for women.
The concept of SpeedDating involves a group of Jewish singles - an equal number of men and women - gathering in a caf‚ filled with numbered tables. One man and one woman are paired up at each table, where they have seven minutes to talk.
Organizers offer topics to discuss, such as the participants' most satisfying achievement or who they admire most, said local coordinator Leslie Trachtenberg.
At the end of the seven-minute "date," a bell rings and participants check off on a form if he or she is interested in seeing the other person again.
If both parties want to meet again, organizers provide them with contact information within 48 hours.
The procedure continues until each man "dates" each woman.
Last spring, Chai Singles, a singles group at Temple Chai, held a similar event, the "8-Minute Speed Power Date," which was based on the Aish HaTorah program.
Cost is $35 and includes a cappuccino. Call 480-391-1217 or visit the Web site at www.speeddating.com.
