New firm creates buzz

The name says it all.
Leslie Sonnenklar's goal for her new company, Buzz Marketing, is just that - to create a buzz for her clients.
"Everyone wants to hear a 'buzz' in the market about their product regardless of what it is. I give to it to them," she asserts. "By the time I'm done, everyone will be talking about their company."
The focus of the business is on event marketing - from sporting events to entertainment to parties. Current clients include Ovation Entertainment/Sportscom, producers of extreme rodeo competitions; Animal Rescue Foundation's annual fund-raiser, Stars to the Rescue; Herberger Theater Center's Herberger Headliners and Performing and Broadcast Arts Hall of Fame; and the International Gem and Jewelry Show.
Sonnenklar grew up in Scottsdale and attended Arizona State University, graduating with a bachelor's degree in marketing in 1993. She then moved to Houston to work for The Summit arena (now called Compaq Center). While at The Summit, she helped market events such as The Harlem Globetrotters' performances, Walt Disney's World on Ice, concerts and other special events.
Sonnenklar left The Summit to work for the Astrodomain Complex - the Astrodome, Astrohall and Astroarena - first as a marketing representative and eventually as director of marketing for the complex.
When Sonnenklar returned to the Valley she joined Element Design + Communications graphic design firm and eventually decided to use her background in advertising, promotions and public relations to start her own company.
Not only did Sonnenklar bring her business skills with her from Houston but her talents in the ring as well - the boxing ring, that is.
Sonnenklar enjoys Muay Thai Boxing, similar to kickboxing. She has had two competitions, one in Houston and one in the Valley - both of which ended in second-round TKOs in Sonnenklar's favor.
"I started doing (Thai boxing) in Houston three years ago, strictly for fitness reasons, but quickly became somewhat obsessed with it," she explains.
She regularly spends 1 1/2-2 hours per day on her workout regime and even longer when training for a fight, when she runs twice a day and trains rigorously for more than two hours daily.
Sonnenklar's parents, Irene and Adam Sonnenklar, live in Scottsdale in the house she grew up in. The family belongs to Har Zion Congregation.
