ObituariesJoseph AdelsteinJoseph Adelstein of Phoenix died Dec. 21, 2001. He was 78. He was born in Chelsea, Mass., and moved to Arizona in 1972. He was a retired manager of a shoe store and was a World War II veteran.Survivors include his wife, Claire; daughter, Arlene Martinson of Phoenix; son, Stephen of Phoenix; sister, Ruth Rabin of Phoenix; and two grandchildren. Private services were held. Joy FeldmanJoy Feldman of Las Vegas died Dec. 9, 2001. She was 74. Survivors include her daughter, Amy Dodell of Scottsdale. She was born in New York and moved to Las Vegas in 1987 from Orange, Calif. She was a retired interior designer.Other survivors include her sons, Bruce of Las Vegas and Paul of Orange; brother, Arthur Marsh of Laguna Hills, Calif.; and three grandchildren. Services were held in Los Angeles. Arrangements were by King David Mortuary in Las Vegas. Rochelle HalperinRochelle Halperin of Phoenix died Jan. 1, 2002. She was 52. She was born in Phoenix. She was employed with the Arizona Department of Economic Security Jobs Division.Survivors include her daughter, Dianna Wimberly of Prescott Valley; son, Michael Boldt of Los Angeles; mother, Molly of Phoenix; sisters, Ilene Blau of Tempe, Linda Foldesh of Prescott and Phyllis Lewis of Phoenix; brother, Martin of Glendale; and five grandchildren. She was born in Russia and moved to Arizona 46 years ago from New York. She was a homemaker.Survivors include her husband, David; daughters, Beverly Fineberg of Phoenix, and Alaine Matlow of Mesa; son, Jerry of Winslow; sisters, Pauline Teckler of Tampa, Fla., and Betty Goldstein of Binghamton, N.Y.; brother, Ben Kaplan of Phoenix; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Flower St., Phoenix 85014. Alfred SlovinAlfred E. Slovin of Phoenix died Dec. 26, 2001. He was 86. He was born in Worcester, Mass., and moved to Arizona in 1986. He was a retired meat cutter and served in the U. S. Army in World War II. He was a member of the Jewish War Veterans, Post #194.Survivors include his wife, Sara; daughter, Elaine Kaplan of Worcester; son, Alan Kaplan of Mission Viejo, Calif.; and three grandchildren. Sylvan BrownJudge I. Sylvan Brown, age 73, passed away December 20, 2001 in Phoenix. He was born in Baltimore, Maryland and moved to the Valley 43 years ago. He was a retired Superior Court Judge in Phoenix, serving for 20 years in that position. Previously, he was in private practice for 18 years. Following his retirement, he established a mediation practice. He served as an Officer in the J.A.G. for three years. He was a member of Order of the Coif; Beth El Congregation, and served on its Board of Directors; a past president of Jewish Family and Children's Service; a past president of Thunderbird Lodge B'nai B'rith; and a past president of North Phoenix Corporate Ministry.Survivors include his wife Evelyn, daughters Linda Joy Brown and Maralynn (Jeffrey) Bernstein, son Morris Brown, sisters Rebecca Govons and Merry Myerowitz, brothers Manuel (Miriam) Brown and Eli (Estelle) Brown, grandsons Ethan Freeman and Joshua Bernstein, and granddaughter Ariel Bernstein. Funeral services were held Sunday, December 23rd at Sinai Mortuary Chapel, in Phoenix. Vera MeyersonVera Meyerson was peacefully released to His care on December 23, 2001 and reunited with departed loved ones. In the fullness of her life, she was a mother, a grandmother, a friend and a professional. As a bookkeeper and later at Century 21 and at Scottsdale Healthcare Admitting, she made many dear and valued friends whom she loved and cherished.She never met a stranger to whom she would not offer her ever-present smile and her natural kindness and generosity. She prized laughter and friendship over all else. The sparkle in her eyes and her intelligent and insightful wit bestowed upon us a sense of grace, dignity, perspective and understanding of what it truly means to be wholly and completely human. Ultimately, that was her finest gift to us. She will be missed by many, and leaves a precious sorrow in the lives of her son Charles, his wife Robin, their children Raina and Rory; her daughter Sharon and her son Tyler; as well as nephews Bruce and Sam Mindlin.
