JCC membership meets current goal

So far, the Valley of the Sun Jewish Community Center is on target with regard to membership.

"The goal was 300 before Dec. 31," said Mark Shore, JCC president. "We've reached that goal and now the goal before August is to get close to 900 units of membership."

The JCC will be located on the Ina Levine Jewish Community Campus at Scottsdale Road and Sweetwater Avenue in Scottsdale, which is scheduled to open in August 2002.

On Nov. 28, the JCC held a phone-a-thon, during which 16 new members signed up, Shore said.

Membership units and dues are: individual ($700), couple ($850) and family ($1,000). An increase in dues will be announced in January, after the current phase of enrollment ends, Shore said.

Current programming with member discounts include a winter camp for the JCC Shemesh Day Camp, which will be held Dec. 24-Jan. 7 at Cocopah Middle School, 6615 E. Cholla, Scottsdale.

The JCC has also developed a relationship with the National Football League for a flag football program and with the National Basketball Association for a Junior NBA basketball program, Shore said. The programs are scheduled to begin in January for grade school and middle school age children.

Once the campus opens, membership benefits will include use of the JCC fitness center, outdoor pools, racquetball courts, gym for basketball and volleyball, weight training, steam room, whirlpool and fitness classes such as spinning and aerobics.

Current benefits include discounted fees and early registration for public programs and priority enrollment in the JCC preschool and summer camp programs.
