Obituaries

Ilana Solomon

Ilana Michelle Solomon of Phoenix died Nov. 20, 2001. She was 26. She was born in Phoenix. She attended the Arizona State School for the Deaf and Blind and was a member of Temple Chai.

Survivors include her parents, Judy and Martin; and sister, Dani.

Services were held at Sinai Mortuary Chapel, with Rabbi William Berk officiating. Arrangements were by Sinai Mortuary. Contributions are suggested to Temple Chai Special Education Fund, 4645 E. Marilyn Road, Phoenix 85032.



Margaret Klein

Margaret Klein of Phoenix died Nov. 23, 2001. She was 90. She was born in New York and moved to Arizona in 1989. She was a homemaker and a member of NA'AMAT.

Survivors include her daughter, Barbara Berghoff of Sun Lakes; and four grandchildren.

Services were held at Paradise Memorial Gardens, with Rabbi Peter S. Levi officiating. Arrangements were by Sinai Mortuary. Contributions are suggested to Kivel Campus of Care, 3020 N. 36th St., Phoenix 85018.



Selma Bodner

Selma T. Bodner of Phoenix died Nov. 25, 2001. She was 57. She was born in New York City and moved to Arizona six months ago from Iowa. She was a speech pathologist and audiologist.

Survivors include her daughters, Melanie Crouch of Phoenix, and Andrea Kooritzky of Syracuse, N.Y.; mother, Stella of Phoenix; brother, Philip of Edison, N.J.; and one grandchild.

Services were held at Beth Israel Cemetery, with Rabbi Chaim Silver officiating. Arrangements were by Sinai Mortuary. Contributions are suggested to Young Israel of Phoenix, 745 E. Maryland Ave., Suite #120, Phoenix 85014.



Allen Borsky

Allen Borsky of Scottsdale died Oct. 4, 2001. He was 79. He was born in Newark, N.J. He served in the United States Armed Forces during World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Sara; daughter, Helene Sherman of Allentown, Penn.; son, Louis of St. Simons Island, Ga.; brother, Martin of Bridgewater, N.J.; and four grandchildren.

Contributions are suggested to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix 85014.



Martin M. Adler

Martin M. Adler, age 94, passed away November 26, 2001 in Scottsdale, Arizona. He was born in Poland and moved to the Valley 30 years ago from Chicago. Illinois. He was a retired purchasing agent, a member of Beth El Congregation, B'nai B'rith, a volunteer for the Council of Soviet Jewry, and served with the United States Army during World War II. He was preceded in death by his wife Minnie R. Adler.

Survivors include his son David (Ilene) Adler, his daughter Rivy (Donald) Block, grandchildren Allan (Heidi) Block, Joyce (Michael) Harader, Dan and Adena Adler, and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services and interment were held Wednesday, November 28th at Beth El Cemetery in Phoenix. Contributions in his memory are requested to Temple Solel Early Childhood Learning Center, 6805 E. McDonald Drive, Paradise Valley, AZ 85253. Arrangements by Sinai Mortuary.



Herbert Ira Weinberg

Herbert Ira Weinberg, age 73, passed away November 26, 2001 in Scottsdale, Arizona. He was born in New York City and moved to Scottsdale 11 years ago from Michigan. He was a retired steel manufacturer, a member of Temple Solel, past president of the Heard Museum Guild, coordinated for the AARP TAX-AIDE Program and was a veteran with the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict.

Survivors include his wife Edna, sons Glenn (Deborah), Charles (Carolyn) and James, and three grandchildren. Memorial services were held Wednesday, November 28th at Temple Solel, 6805 E. McDonald Drive, Paradise Valley, AZ 85253. Contributions in his memory are requested to Temple Solel or Heard Museum Guild, 2301 N. Central Ave., Phoenix, AZ 85004.

Harriette Gerst

Harriette Gerst, age 90, passed away November 23, 2001 in Phoenix, Arizona. She was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico and moved to Phoenix 80 years ago. She was a member of Temple Beth Israel for many years and a member of Hadassah.

Survivors include her daughter Bobbie (Leroy) Feig; sons Stephen (Tobie) Gerst and Kenneth (Eleanor) Gerst; sisters, Tillie Garten and Rose (Max) Weitman; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Graveside funeral services were held Sunday, November 25th in Beth Israel Cemetery in Phoenix. Contributions in her memory are requested to Lura Turner Homes, 317 W. Lynwood Street, Phoenix, AZ 85003. Arrangements by Sinai Mortuary.
