Valley Hanukkah celebrations

Hanukkah with Jewish music

The East Valley Jewish community will celebrate Hanukkah with Jewish music and song 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, at Temple Beth Sholom, 3400 N. Dobson Road, Chandler.

The concert will feature members of the Klezmatics, who will perform Hasidic and traditional Jewish music and children's songs. The event is co-sponsored by Temple Emanuel of Tempe, Temple Beth Sholom and the Tri-City Jewish Community Center. Cost is $8 adults, $3 children under 12.

Cost for the concert with a dessert buffet is $12 adults, $6 for children under 12.

For members of Temple Emanuel Temple Youth, United Synagogue Youth and B'nai B'rith Youth Organization, cost is $3, which includes the concert and buffet.

Tri-City JCC Hanukkah party

East Valley residents are invited to a Hanukkah party 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, at the Tri-City Jewish Community Center, 1965 E. Hermosa Drive, Tempe. The party features a latke dinner, games, crafts and a menorah lighting by Rabbi Andrew Straus of Tempe Emanuel of Tempe followed by holiday songs from the JCC school children and an abbreviated performance of "The Odd Potato," a Hanukkah musical performed by the Arizona Jewish Theatre Company.

Cost is $2.50 individual; $6 per family.

Comedic Shabbat in Scottsdale

Stand-up comedian Steve Mittleman will perform at a Hanukkah Shabbaton 5:15 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, at Chabad of Scottsdale, 10215 N. Scottsdale Road. Mittleman has appeared on television programs including "Late Night with David Letterman" and the "Tonight Show" with Johnny Carson. He has also written material for David Frye, Gabe Kaplan and Rodney Dangerfield.

Cost is $30 adults; $17 for children ages 12 and under.

Festival of Lights includes dinner, music

Temple Chai will celebrate Hanukkah beginning with a Shabbos Nosh 5:45 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, at the temple, 4645 E. Marilyn Road, Phoenix. A Kabbalat Shabbat service will begin 6:15 p.m., followed by a Shabbat dinner and concert. The temple's adult and junior choirs will be led by Cantor Sharona Feller and joined by other musicians and friends.

Hanukkah wonderland on ice

Chabad of the West Valley will hold "Hanukkah on Ice" 2:30-4:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16, at the Polar Ice Rink, 15829 N. 83rd Ave., Peoria. Participants can skate with Judah the Macabee and enjoy the lighting of a six-foot menorah, dreidel, face painting, candle making and food. Jewish music and movies will also be featured. Cost is $8.

Seniors celebrate with latkes, games

Temple Chai's Dor L'Dor senior group will hold a Hanukkah party and game day noon-4 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, at the temple's Mollen Social Hall, 4645 E. Marilyn Road, Phoenix. The event will feature a latke lunch to be followed by games, including Mah Jong, Bridge, Mexican Train and Bingo.

Cost is $7.50 for members and $10 for nonmembers.

Hadassah Hanukkah party

Hadassah W.I.S.K. will hold its annual Hanukkah party 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, at a private home in Phoenix. The event will feature a dairy dinner and a gift auction. Participants are asked to bring one food item and a gift with a $10 value.

Hanukkah celebration honors Holocaust survivor

NA'AMAT USA, Rina chapter, will honor Holocaust survivor Magda Willinger at a Hanukkah celebration 11:30 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 16, at Beef Eaters, 300 W. Camelback Road, Phoenix. Willinger will discuss her experiences and life during the Holocaust. Copies of "The Enduring Spirit," the story of Willinger's life, will be available at the meeting for $16.50. Cost is $25. Hanukkah on ice

Chabad of the East Valley will hold "Hanukkah on Ice" 2-4:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16, at Polar Ice, 7225 W. Harrison St., Chandler. The event will include ice skating, food, prizes, an ice-sculpting presentation and the lighting of an ice menorah. Cost is $10. Call 480-753-5366.



Chabad Hanukkah

Chabad of Phoenix holds a menorah lighting ceremony 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9, at the State Capitol.

A Hanukkah celebration for the Russian-speaking community will take place at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 10, at Chabad of Arizona, 2110 E. Lincoln Drive, Phoenix.

Chabad also will have a Hanukkah extravaganza 4:30 p.m.Tuesday, Dec. 11, at Fiddlesticks Family Fun Park, 8800 E. Indian Bend Road, Scottsdale. Cost is $10. To attend, call 602-944-2753.



Miracle at Arizona Mills

Chabad of the East Valley hosts a Hanukkah event featuring music, raffles, traditional holiday doughnuts and the lighting of a giant menorah 5-6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12, at the Arizona Mills mall food court, I-10 and Baseline Road, Tempe. Call 480-753-5366.



A Klezmer Hanukkah

A free Hanukkah concert of Sabbath song and music will be performed by Zmiros 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, at Beth El Congregation, 1118 W. Glendale Ave., Phoenix.
