Phoenix Preparatory H.S. accredited

Phoenix Preparatory High School received accreditation from the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools in September.
According to school principal Don Roth, "Accreditation is going to mean - as it does for most of the high schools in the state that are accredited - that we meet (North Central's) standard for school improvement and for curriculum."
North Central Association is a nonprofit organization that accredits more than 9,000 schools in 19 states, according to its Web site.
Dr. Jan Regnier, state director of the Arizona North Central Association, says the organization began nearly 100 years ago, when college and university presidents decided to develop standards for teachers and curriculum.
Regnier says there are approximately 400 accredited schools in Arizona; approximately 225 are secondary schools. All public high schools in the state are accredited.
Initially, accreditation means the school has met North Central's standards for curriculum, teaching staff and facilities, but maintaining accreditation also includes the development and implementation of a school improvement plan.
According to Roth, the accreditation will allow PPHS students to transfer in and out of the school with greater ease, and will be helpful for students applying to colleges and universities.
"Obviously we hope that both students and parents alike will realize the quality of education they can get and, at the same time, be able to benefit from small classes," says Roth. "We're very pleased and we feel we've been successful in getting this far and we're looking forward to continuing to improve and help the school grow."
