ObituariesEthel DolginEthel Dolgin of Phoenix died Sept. 18, 2001. She was 86. She was born in Albany, N.Y., and moved to Arizona in 1972. She was a retired saleswoman and a member of Jewish War Veterans' Auxiliary and Hadassah.Survivors include her sister, Dorothy Lasky. Services were held at Green Acres Mortuary. Arrangements were by Green Acres Mortuary. Herbert LevitonHerbert S. Leviton of Scottsdale died Sept. 20, 2001. He was 85. He was born in Philadelphia and moved to Arizona from Texas in 1975. He was a retired chemical engineer and an U.S. Army veteran of World War II.Survivors include his wife, Harriet; daughters, M. Joyce Geyser of Phoenix, and Sandra Reay of Monument, Colo.; sister, Sarah Spinn of Elkton, Md.; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Services were held at Sinai Mortuary Chapel, with Rabbi David Rebibo officiating. Arrangements were by Sinai Mortuary. Contributions are suggested to Phoenix Hebrew Academy, 515 E. Bethany Home Road, Phoenix 85012. Celia GreenCelia Green of Phoenix died Sept. 21, 2001. She was 96. She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and moved to Arizona from Florida in 1988. She was a retired bookkeeper and homemaker.Survivors include her son, Ivan Schreiber of Phoenix; sisters, Gertrude Werfel of Phoenix, and Sandra Kreitman and Ann Linsky of Sunrise, Fla.; four grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Services were held at Beth El Cemetery, with Rabbi Herbert Silberman officiating. Arrangements were by Sinai Mortuary. Contributions are suggested to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix 85014. Sadie ChesinSadie R. Chesin of Sun City died Sept. 24, 2001. She was 77. She was born in Minneapolis and moved to Arizona from Minnesota in 1969. She was a homemaker.Survivors include her husband, Nathan; daughter, Stacy of Glendale; sons, Larry of Phoenix and Arlin of Gilbert; sister, Tilie Pink of Minneapolis; brothers, Hymie Brand of South Carolina and Gerald Brand of California; and one grandchild. Services were held at National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, with Rabbi Arthur J. Abrams officiating. Arrangements were by Sinai Mortuary. Contributions are suggested to American Cancer Society, 2929 E. Thomas Road, Phoenix 85016. Shirley ArnsteinShirley Arnstein, age 74, passed away on September 18, 2001. She was born and raised in Michigan. She spent most of her life in Phoenix. Survivors include her lover, best friend and husband of 54 years, Marvin; son David (Beth) of Israel; daughter Susie of Phoenix; and grandchildren, Gia, Zachary and Jared. Also, sisters Lenore Heller and Janet Eisenberg of Chicago.Shirley dedicated her life to helping others. For nine years she was a Reach to Recovery volunteer for the American Cancer Society, giving emotional and physical support to women in their battle against breast cancer. She was revered, loved and respected by all who know her. Shirley was a successful author and writer. She was a member of the Phoenix Writer's Club, the Creative Writer's Workshop and a charter member of the Arizona State Poetry Society. She was a member of Har Zion Congregation. Funeral services were held Friday, September 21, 2001 at Sinai Mortuary Chapel. Contributions in her memory are requested to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 East Flower Street, Phoenix, AZ 85014. |
