Holiday celebrations open to beginners, nonmembers

Young Israel of Phoenix and The Phoenix Community Kollel will offer a High Holiday Beginners Service in addition to the traditional celebration. Prayerbooks will be translated and transliterated and no Hebrew reading will be required. Meaningful explanations of each service's key prayers will also be provided. There will be no charge for admission and childcare will be available.

Beginner's services will be held on Rosh Hashana, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 18, and Tuesday, Sept. 19, at Young Israel, 745 E. Marilyn Ave, Phoenix.

Topics include "The Jewish Form of Prayer," "New Year's Day, God and World Peace," and "The Spiritual Reality of Time."

Kol Nidrei services will be held 5:45 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26; and Yom Kippur services will be held 9 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, all at the temple.To make a reservation, call 602-265-8888.

Chabad-Lubavitch of Phoenix will offer High Holiday services to all Jews, regardless of background or affiliation. Membership is not required and there is no charge.

Chabad is located at 2110 E. Lincoln Drive, Phoenix.

Chabad of Scottsdale will hold a Tashlich service on Tuesday, Sept. 18. The group will leave at 5:15 p.m. from the Chabad center, 10215 N. Scottsdale Road.

Rosh Hashana services are 6:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 17; 9:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18; and 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19 at Holiday Inn Sunspree Resort, 7601 Indian Bend Road, Scottsdale.

Yom Kippur services, open to everyone, at no charge, will be held 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26, and 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, at Holiday Inn Sunspree Resort.
