Services open to nonmembers

Or Adam Congregation for Humanistic Judaism will celebrate the High Holidays with a humanistic approach - a time to focus on self-judgement and affirmations of one's own power and responsibility. Services will consist of thought-provoking meditations, poetry, Hebrew songs, stories, readings and inspirational messages. For children, an interactive Rosh Hashana secular service will include music, songs, the blowing of the shofar and a child-oriented message of taking responsibility for actions. Also, rabbinic candidate Miriam Jerris from the Society for Humanistic Judaism in Detroit will be featured during Yom Kippur services.

Rosh Hashana services will be held 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 17, at the Scottsdale Civic Center Library, 9191 E. San Salvador Drive. The children's Rosh Hashana service will be held 10 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 23, at the Vista Del Camino Park Community Room, 7700 E. Roosevelt St., Scottsdale. Yom Kippur services will be held 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26, and 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, at the Scottsdale Civic Center Library Auditorium.

Cost is $36 for adults, $18 for children. Call 480-663-7788.

Temple Beth Emeth of Scottsdale will hold High Holiday services at Kerr Cultural Center, 6110 N. Scottsdale Road, Scottsdale.

Services will be conducted by Andrew Pepperstone, a rabbinical student at New York's Jewish Theological Seminary and Cantor David Niles.

Tickets are $125 adults, $50 for full-time college students and children 13 and over. Call 480-941-4112.

Rabbi Hillel Cohn, rabbi emeritus of Congregation Emanu El in San Bernadino, Calif., will lead High Holiday services for Temple Gan Elohim in Glendale. Services will be held at Dove of the Desert United Methodist Church, 7201 W. Beardsley Road, Glendale. Tickets for nonmembers are $136. Call 623-210-7435.

The Greater Phoenix Community Kollel - Torah Mitzion will hold a traditional Rosh Hashana service at 6:45 p.m. at Beth Joseph Congregation, 515 E. Bethany Home Road, Phoenix, followed by a festive meal at the home of Kollel Rabbi Gedalia Peterseil. Cost is $15.
