Obituaries

Sylvia Berkowitz

Sylvia L. Berkowitz of Scottsdale died Sept. 1, 2001. She was 79. She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and moved to Arizona 14 years ago from New Jersey. She was a retired elementary school teacher. She was a member of Temple Chai and a graduate of Hunter College in New York.

Survivors include her husband, Sydney; daughters, Barbara Shotlander of Hillsborough, N.J., and Gayle Djavadi of Phoenix; son, Bruce of West Hills, Calif.; brother, Sheldon Schweidel of Wilmington, Del.; and six grandchildren.

Graveside services were held at Paradise Memorial Gardens, with Rabbi Peter Levy officiating. Arrangements were by Sinai Mortuary. Contributions are suggested to the National Parkinson's Foundation, 222 W. Thomas Road, Phoenix 85018.



Bruce Alan Lovitch

Bruce Alan Lovitch, 48, of Scottsdale, passed away August 31, 2001. He was born in Queens, New York, July 19, 1953. Bruce moved to Arizona in 1988. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Susan; daughters Brooke (21) and Elana (15); son Ean (12); grandson Aharon (3). Bruce was a member of Har Zion Congregation and was active in the Arizona Ice Hockey community, both adult and youth, giving generously of his time as a coach.

Funeral services were held Monday, September 3, 2001. A family support account is being established at Wells Fargo Bank, Account #5871031521, in the name of the Lovitch family.
