King David hires teachers

Four new teachers have been hired for the 2001-2002 academic year at the King David School.

New teachers are Ina Kaufman, Sandi Hultgren, Sophie Plapp and Laurie Berman.

Kaufman will be teaching one of two third-grade classes. She graduated from the University of Nebraska at Omaha with a bachelor of science degree in education. Kaufman's teaching experiences include first, second, third and fifth grades in all subject areas. Her most recent teaching assignments were at Sonoran College Preparatory School in Phoenix and Judson School in Scottsdale.

Hultgren will teach sixth- and seventh-grade language arts and social studies. She earned a bachelor of arts degree at Siena Heights College in Adrian, Mich. Hultgren was formerly a National Junior Honor Society advisor at Judson Middle School, developed a student council for middle school students and created a community service program with students.

Plapp, a sixth- and seventh-grade Hebrew and Judaica teacher, has been involved in teaching in the local community. She studied at Tel Aviv University in the Jewish Studies and History departments. Most recently, Plapp taught at the Bureau of Jewish Education's Hebrew High.

Laurie Berman will teach math and science for sixth and seventh grades. She graduated from Technion in Haifa and continued to take classes at Arizona State University. She has taught in local synagogues and ESL classes.

The King David School is located at 10460 N. 56th St., Scottsdale.
