New school dedicates building

The board of directors for The Jess Schwartz Jewish Community High School will dedicate a new building at noon Friday, Sept. 7, at the Mollen Social Hall of Temple Chai, 4645 E. Marilyn Road, Phoenix.

Rabbi Nathan Laufer, president and CEO of the Wexner Heritage Foundation in New York, will be the keynote speaker. Freshmen and sophomore students will lead a Torah processional from Mollen Hall to the high school building, adjacent to Temple Chai. Three Torah scrolls, on loan from Temple Chai, Beth El Congregation and Beth Joseph Congregation, will be dedicated and installed in wooden arks commissioned for the school and carved by New York area artists. The 7,000 square-foot building will be the interim home of the school, to be shared with Temple Chai. The permanent location for the high school will be on the Ina Levine Jewish Community Center campus at Scottsdale Road and Sweetwater Avenue in Scottsdale.
