Beth Joseph honors teens studying in Israel

To honor seven college-age students who are scheduled to go to Israel for post-high school studies, a special presentation on Kedushat Ha'Aretz ("the holiness of Israel") and a kiddush will be held at Beth Joseph Congregation after services Saturday, Aug. 18, at the congregation, 515 E. Bethany Home Road, Phoenix.

Naomi Block, Akiva Cooperman, Noah Goldstein, Dovid Gorman, Yoni Sebag, Naomi Silva and Max Silva will all attend various educational institutions in Israel, despite recent downturns in American Jewish tourism and student enrollment.

"We are seeing a lack of fiery, vigorous action" in support of Israel response to the latest violence, said Rabbi David Rebibo.

But Beth Joseph is the exception, "sending a decent representation to Israel," he added.

The goal of the special presentation is to make the congregation aware of the emphasis on Israel in Beth Joseph's adult studies curriculum, and "its religious significance in the life of the Jewish people," said Rebibo.
