West Valley Chabad purchases property

Starting tonight, (Friday, Aug. 10), Chabad of the West Valley will hold Shabbat services in its newly purchased facility at 7227 W. Bluefield Ave., Glendale.

The 1,600 square-foot building shares the same property as the residence of Rabbi Sholom and Chana Lew and will be used for Shabbat services, weekly classes, Friday night family onegs and some holiday events.

"The West Valley is now fertile ground for both the Jewish community, as well as the wider community economically and socially and we are very excited and heartened by the overwhelming response of the Jewish population," said Rabbi Sholom Lew.

The one-year-old synagogue formerly held Shabbat services at Benley Manor Retirement Community located in Glendale, which closed last month, and classes at various locations.

"This new move will give a real boost to all the activities and we hope to increase with many new programs," added Chana Lew, program director.

Shabbat services are 6:30 p.m. Fridays and 9:30 a.m. Saturdays.

High Holiday services will be held at Hampton Inn, 408 W. Paradise Lane, Peoria.
