Obituaries

Deborah Rosenfeld

Deborah Rosenfeld of Scottsdale died Aug. 2, 2001. She was 79. She was born in Israel. She was a homemaker and a member of Temple Chai.

Survivors include her daughter, Sharona Silverman of Scottsdale; son, Ron of Tualatin, Ore.; sister, Ofra Aylon of Israel; and four grandchildren.

Services were held at Temple Chai, with Rabbi Lisa Tzur officiating.

Arrangements were by Sinai Mortuary. Contributions are suggested to Temple Chai, 4645 E. Marilyn Road, Phoenix 85032.



Ruth Minkoff

Ruth Minkoff of Phoenix died Aug. 2, 2001. She was 89. She was born in Chicago and moved to Arizona 26 years ago. She was a retired government employee. She was a former member of Hadassah and an active resident at Kivel Campus of Care.

Survivors include her sons, Howard of Morton Grove, Ill., and Myron of Chicago; three grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services were held at Beth El Cemetery. Arrangements were by Sinai Mortuary.

Contributions are suggested to Kivel Campus of Care, 3020 N. 36th St., Phoenix 85018.



Julius Francis

Julius Francis of Phoenix died Aug. 3, 2001. He was 84. He was born in Chicago and moved to Arizona in 1948. He was a World War II veteran and worked in the field of dairy science. He was an avid fisherman.

Survivors include his wife, Miriam; son, Jordan of Phoenix; daughter, Marcia of Vista, Calif.; and sister, Beverly Rudik of Van Nuys, Calif.

Private services were held. Arrangements were by Arizona Aftercare.

Contributions are suggested to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix 85014.



Jack Cohen

Jack Cohen, 79, of Merrillville, Indiana, formerly of Gary, passed away Saturday, August 5, 2001. Jack was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, February 26, 1922 to the late Morris and Rebeccah Glick Cohen. He married his loving wife Iva Yates in 1949. A proud veteran, he enlisted December 8, 1941 and served as a Master Sergeant in the Army Air Corps. He was involved in the Normandy Invasion at Omaha Beach, the Battle of the Bulge and the Occupation of Germany in 1945. Upon return to the states, he along with longtime business partner Jack Shaffner opened Jack's Pawn Shop in Gary. In the early 60s he opened the first Chinese restaurant in Lake County, Ming Ling Restaurant. Survived by his wife Iva Cohen of Merrillville; daughter Randee (Shlomo) Pri-Tal and son Miles Cohen; two grandchildren, Benjamin and Maya Pri-Tal and sister, Rose Siegle, all of Phoenix, AZ, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services took place in Indiana on Tuesday, August 7, 2001. Friends may call at the Pri-Tal home, 302 E. Orangewood, on Saturday and Sunday evening, Aug. 11 and 12, beginning at 5:30 PM with Minyan at 8:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society would be appreciated.



Nettie C. Pollack

Nettie C. Pollack, 87, passed away August 6, 2001 in Scottsdale, Arizona. She was born in New York City and moved to the valley from Great Neck, New York 37 years ago. In 1964 she was the longest running contestant on the television game show Concentration. She touched many lives and was a gift to everyone who knew her. Survivors include her sons Michael Pollack, Elliott (Amal) Pollack and step-son Sydney (Eileen) Pollack, step-daughter Helen Berne and grandchildren, Jennifer and Alex Pollack, Shari Berne and step-grandchildren Paulina and Leila Anderson. Funeral services were held August 8, 2001, Sinai Mortuary Chapel. Contributions in her memory are requested to Temple Kol Ami, 15030 N. 64th St., Scottsdale, AZ 85254 or Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix, AZ 85014.
