Obituaries

Ida Stocker

Ida Stocker of Phoenix died June 25, 2001. She was 81. She was born in Phoenix and was a life-long resident. She was a homemaker, a graduate of the University of Arizona and a volunteer with UNICEF for more than 25 years.

Survivors include her husband, Joseph; sons, Steven of Germantown, Md., David of Phoenix and Marc of Scottsdale; sister, Frances Firestein of Phoenix; and one grandchild.

Services were held at Beth El Cemetery, with Rabbi Martin Scharf officiating. Arrangements were by Sinai Mortuary. Contributions are suggested to Kivel Campus of Care, 3020 N. 36th St., Phoenix 85018.



Louis Gethner

Louis M. Gethner of Chicago died June 9, 2001. He was 89. He was born in Russia. He was an eye doctor and a pharmacist. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Sonia; daughter, Judith Gethner Ewig of Glenview, Ill.; son, Stuart of Paradise Valley; and five grandchildren.

Graveside services were held at Westlawn Cemetery in Chicago. Contributions are suggested to Kagan Home for the Blind, 3525 W. Foster, Chicago IL 60625.



Celia Hackel

Celia B. Hackel of Sun City West died June 9, 2001. She was 91. She was born in Fall River, Mass., and moved to Arizona 27 years ago from Ohio. She was a homemaker and a member of Temple Beth Shalom of Sun City and Hadassah.

Survivors include her daughter, Reda Garlikov of Phoenix; sons, Alan of Montgomery, Ala., and David of Studio City, Calif.; and five grandchildren.

Services were held at Sunland Memorial Park, with Rabbi Abe Meth officiating. Arrangements were by Sinai Mortuary. Contributions are suggested to The Morris & Celia Hackel Beautification Fund at Temple Beth Shalom, 12202 N. 101st. St., Sun City 85351.



Alice Snyder

Alice Snyder of Sun City died June 17, 2001. She was 80. She was born in Elizabeth, N.J., and moved to Arizona in 1981. She was a homemaker and an avid cook.

Survivors include her daughter, Nancy; and two grandchildren.

Services were held at Sunland Lakeside Chapel. Arrangements were by Sunland Mortuary. Contributions are suggested to Hospice of the Valley, 9720 W. Peoria Ave., Suite 128, Peoria 85345-6133.



Jack Levitt

Jack Levitt, age 72, passed away Sunday, June 24. Originally from Philadelphia, PA and Detroit, MI, he lived in Paradise Valley and was an Arizona resident since 1981. An anesthesiologist before retiring, he is survived by his wife, Sandy Levitt; daughter, Gwen Levitt; daughter Sue Sandys, son-in-law Cliff Sandys, and grandchildren Jamie Sandys and Micah Sandys; mother, Rose Levitt, of Philadelphia; and brothers Harvey Levitt and Ellis Levitt, both of Philadelphia.

Services were held at Green Acres Cemetery.



Gerald Paller

Gerald Paller, age 65, passed away June 25, 2001 in Lakeside, CA. He had been a resident of Phoenix since 1947, moving here from his native Chicago, IL. He was a Real Estate Broker and General contractor, a member of Mission Bay Yacht Club, Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, Hacienda Harley Club and Buddy Stubbs II.O.G. Survivors include his wife Barbara; sons Mark (Susan) Paller and Leonard Paller; stepsons Rodd (Dena) Feingold and Adam (Heide) Feingold; brother Leroy (Faye) Paller; and four grandchildren. Also his beloved dog Rocky. Funeral services were held Thursday, June 28th in Sinai Mortuary Chapel, 4538 N. 16th St. in Phoenix. Contributions in his memory are suggested to the Arizona Humane Society, 9226 N. 13th Ave., Phoenix, AZ 85021.
