People on the moveLeisah Namm has been accepted to the 2001 Gralla Fellow Program for Journalists in the Jewish Press July 8-12 at Brandeis University in Waltham, Mass. Namm is the assistant editor of Jewish News.Har Zion Congregation has elected its new executive board members. They are as follows: Sandy Karpen, president; Andy Cooper, executive vice president; Dr. Scott Steingard, vice president, ways & means; Ken Levine, vice president, education and youth; Mervyn Levin, vice president, ritual; Nancy Cohen, vice president, membership; Martin Locke, treasurer; Jerry Landau, secretary; Jennie Kronenfeld, past president. The newly elected officers will serve until May 31, 2003. The Brandeis University National Women's Committee held it's Western/Midwest Region Conference June 1-3 in Los Angeles. Five members of the Phoenix chapter were present, including Carol Kern, national board member; Susan Karp, national board member; Connie Weiss Flegenheimer, immediate past president Phoenix chapter and member of the regional board; Ruth Cohen, financial secretary and director of Brandeis Used Book Shoppe; and Rhona Ozer, incoming president of the Phoenix chapter. The Phoenix chapter won the Louis D. Brandeis Award and achieved fundraising and membership goals. Barbara Riggs, public relations manager for the Scottsdale Cultural Council, will be leaving the Valley for San Diego June 30. In addition to being on the cultural council for nine years, Riggs has also been the public relations director for Cafe Casino, a publicist for the Scottsdale Center for the Arts and marketing director for the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation. Paul Svancara recently joined Element Design and Communications as art director. Svancara has worked on projects for IBM, Pepsi, Datek Online, Mattell Toys and Capital Records and played a key role in logo development of the Phoenix Suns, Alice Cooperstown and an Arnold Palmer golf course. In his new position, Svancara will have two art designers under his direction. Ed Cooperstein, founder of KNXV-TV Channel 15, will head Talk Internetwork at www.Talkinternet.com. The "All-Talk Web Channel" will present one-hour talk shows daily between 5-9 p.m. Eastern and 2-6 p.m. Pacific times. Hosts will include Pat McMahon, Jim Bohannon and Howard Sheldon. Arizona women business owners and executives have joined to form the Women's Chamber of Commerce. The nonprofit organization is dedicated to improving the climate for women-owned businesses and promoting women in the community. The founding board of directors includes: Sandra Abalos, Annette Alvarez, Ronni Anderson, Patty Briguglio, Margot Dorfman, Christine Dura, Deatra Lambert-Harrington, Becky Jackson and Terry Williams. Kevin Bilder was recently promoted to manager of Media and Traffic in the marketing department of Rio Salado College. He will oversee the media buying and placement as well as the purchasing of all marketing-related items. Bilder has worked in the marketing department since April 2000. |
