JASS donates money to Valley charities
LEISAH NAMM
Assistant Editor

The Jewish Association of Singles Services (JASS) has donated more than $3,000 to three local Jewish charities this month.
The funds were raised through various events and fund-raising functions.
"That's our purpose, it's not to end up with a bunch of money - we want to cover our events cost and donate the balance," said Barbara Allyn, JASS president.
The following three charities will each receive $1,018: Jewish National Fund; JDC Hunger Relief Project, through the Jewish Federation of Greater Phoenix; and Jewish Family and Children's Service.
The latter donation will benefit Erica Stevens and her daughter Sarah who had to leave their home due to toxic mold infestation and need financial assistance for medical care.
It's not the first time the group has donated funds to charity. Proceeds from its two major fund-raisers - Rainbows and Roses and Winter's Eve - have always gone to charity, Allyn said.
However, this was the largest amount the group has donated at one time, she added.
This year's Rainbows and Roses is scheduled for Aug. 18. Cost is $20 before Aug. 1 and afterward, $25 for members, $35 for nonmembers and $50 for entry with renewed membership.
The goal of JASS is to serve the Valley's Jewish singles community through social and educational programming.
JASS annual membership is $30, which includes event discounts and a monthly newsletter. Cost of newsletter is $10 per year.
