World Church spreads 'hate' literature

On the morning of Wednesday, June 6, residents in the neighborhood around 32nd Street and McDowell Road awoke to find orange plastic baggies on their driveways filled with a folded tabloid titled "FACTS That the Government and the Media Don't Want You to Know."
The editor of the 32-page document was Matthew Hale, founder of the World Church of the Creator, described on business cards included with the newsletter as "dedicated to the survival, expansion and advancement of the White race."
"It gives me the creeps to think that they are intruding into the neighborhood," said Barbara West, a resident who received the tabloid. Her neighborhood is mixed with people of different races - Hispanics, blacks, whites - and religions, she added.
The World Church of the Creator typically targets the Jewish people with vile hatred, said a spokesman from the Arizona chapter of the Anti-Defamation League. By distributing hate literature, the group hopes to target youth and train them to be future leaders, the spokesman explained.
The newsletter contained headings, such as "facts of Jewish media control" and how "Jews really brought slaves to America." In addition, it detailed "screaming numbers of Black on White crime" and the "biological differences between the races."
"I have not seen such divisive hate since the early 1960s," said Rev. Oscar Tillman, president of the Maricopa County chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.
"We do not want to be caught by surprise in the future," said Bill Straus, regional director of the ADL. The ADL will place greater emphasis on law enforcement and hopefully participate in police training, he said.
