Broker brings urban living to Phoenix

When people think of housing in most big cities, they picture apartments, condominiums and lofts. Though Phoenix is the sixth largest city in the United States, it generally lacks that big-city look - appearing more like a giant suburb, stretching from downtown to the outskirts.
However, all this is about to change. From the Brickyard, a development of lofts and retail space on Mill Avenue in Tempe, to Willo Walk, a condominium and loft development at Central Avenue and Encanto Boulevard, the Valley is shifting toward urban living. The most luxurious urban project to date is the Esplanade Place to be located at the southeast corner of Camelback Road and 24th Street in Phoenix, according to real estate broker Keith Mishkin, the 34-year-old owner of Cambridge Properties, based in Phoenix.
Mishkin is the exclusive broker for the Esplanade Place, which is scheduled for groundbreaking this week. Esplanade Place will be a 12-story, luxury condominium, developed by the Pivotal Simon Group in conjunction with Geoffrey Edmunds.
The condominiums will range in size from 2,400 square feet to 4,250 square feet and are priced from $550,000 to $2.5 million, according to Mishkin.
"Our expectation is that this is going to be the finest high-rise in the Southwest with everything from valet service to concierge," explains Mishkin. Other amenities will include a fitness center, clubroom, underground secured parking, and a rooftop spa, sundeck and pool.
"This is the only location in town that within two blocks of our location you can walk to 32 restaurants, walk to the finest shopping in town, walk to the movie theater (and) walk to your office if you want to work close to here," says Mishkin, who has already sold half the building in the last three months.
Esplanade Place is expected to be complete in the fall of 2002.
Mishkin started Cambridge Properties in 1994. He's a graduate of the Honor's College at Arizona State University, with a degree in liberal arts and economics.
Prior to moving to Arizona to attend college, Mishkin lived in New York, where he attended the High School of Performing Arts in Manhattan.
Mishkin is single and resides in Paradise Valley. A member of Temple Chai, he is also involved in the Young Leadership Division of the Jewish Federation of Greater Phoenix, where he serves as vice president of YLD's Annual Campaign Committee.
Mishkin says he is very "passionate" about the campaign and says that this year fund-raising efforts are 50 percent ahead of where they were last year at this time.
"I'm incredibly grateful for the opportunity (federation) has created in funding (YLD)," expresses Mishkin. "I've made some unbelievable friends."
He says he enjoys the opportunity to network, socialize and become active in the community.
"It means a lot to have a sense of community."
