ObituariesMinnie WalzMinnie Walz of Phoenix died April 23, 2001. She was 78. She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and moved to Arizona 17 years ago. She was a retired bookkeeper.Survivors include her daughter, Elaine Schneider of Baltimore; sons, Charlie Hirsch of Phoenix and Mitchell Hirsch of New York City; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Services were held at Phoenix Memorial Park, with Rabbi Lisa Tzur officiating. Arrangements were by Sinai Mortuary. Contributions are suggested to Temple Chai, 4645 E. Marilyn Road, Phoenix 85032. David HandelDavid Handel of Phoenix died April 27, 2001. He was 88. He was born in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., and moved to Arizona 18 years ago. He was a retired turbine machinist for Westinghouse Company. He was a World War II Army veteran of the Pacific Theater.Survivors include his sisters, Marian Katz of Miami, Rita Hicks of Waldorf, Md., and Hannah Taren of Phoenix. She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and moved to Arizona 20 years ago.Survivors include her husband, Irving; daughters, Carolyn Nagournay of Brooklyn, Marsha Rotmistrovsky of Gilbert, and Joyce Schwartz of Livingston, N.J.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Services were held at Green Acres Cemetery. Arrangements were by Messinger Indian School Mortuary. Jack AppelbaumJack Appelbaum of Phoenix died April 28, 2001. He was 88. He was born in Russia. He was employed in the garment industry and served in the Army Air Cops in the Pacific in World War II. He was active at Kivel Campus of Care, and a member of Knights of Pythias and Jewish War Veterans.Survivors include his daughter, Rochelle Stern of Mesa; son, Martin of New York City; brother, Nathan of Brooklyn; and four grandchildren. Services were held at Green Acres Cemetery, with Rabbi Martin Scharf officiating. Arrangements were by Sinai Mortuary.
