Beth El, Chai help build houses

Beth El Congregation and Temple Chai are looking for volunteers to help build homes.

The synagogues are involved with the Sunnyslope Faith and Justice League, an organization made up of faith communities, businesses and county probation offices, partnered with Habitat for Humanity, Valley of the Sun.

The goal of the project is to build new homes and will use probationers and volunteers to provide labor.

The organization has recently purchased land in Sunnyslope for six homes, said Pat Friedlander of Beth El.

The group is now collecting funds from more than 20 congregations of various faiths and organizations within the area to help with building costs, which is approximately $60,000 per house. Families selected for the housing will be asked to commit 400 hours of labor on their home.

Building is expected to begin in the fall.

Volunteers are being called upon to help build houses, orchestrate fund raisers, donate building materials and provide additional support.

Call Friedlander, 480-513-4999; or Hope Bressman of Temple Chai, 480-488-9429.
