Temple Beth Israel selects cantor

Temple Beth Israel in Scottsdale has selected Mikhal Shiff-Matter as its new cantor. She will assume her responsibilities by Aug. 1, after she moves to the Phoenix area with her husband, Shai Matter, and two daughters, Odeliya and Rivital.

Shiff-Matter is currently the cantor of Hebrew Union College (HUC) Synagogue in Jerusalem, where she has served since 1991. As a faculty member of HUC, she has taught both rabbis and cantors of the Reform movement at the HUC-School of Sacred Music.

She is a graduate of the HUC-Jewish Institute of Religion School of Sacred Music, with a master's degree in sacred music.

She graduated from the University of Miami with a bachelor's degree in music and the Manhattan School of Music where she pursued Master studies.
