Martin Latz recently received a "Forty Under 40 Award" to honor his accomplishments in the business community and leadership vision. Latz, adjunct professor of law-negotiation at Arizona State University, is the founder and principal of Latz Negotiation Institute. He was also a member of the White House Advance Team from 1993-1995 and is involved in community service organizations such as The Children's Action Alliance board of directors, serves as a Valley Big Brother and is a member of Arizona Town Hall. Latz also writes a column for the Jewish News.

Hadassah Valley of the Sun will feature the installation of the new executive board officers at 5:45 p.m. Wednesday, May 2, at the McCormick Ranch Golf Club, 7505 E. McCormick Parkway, Scottsdale. The new board of directors include Lee Levine, president; Fredi Brown, executive vice president; Sheilah Wagner, communications; Sandee Mantel, education; Amy Ballen, fund raising; Robin Koehler, membership; Rose Schildkraut, programming; Baila Spevak, treasurer; Vivian Salit, comptroller; Ellen Silverman, recording secretary; and Debbie Gersh, corresponding secretary.

Nineteen Maricopa Community College students were selected for the All-Arizona Academic Team. The students are Lisa Morse and Rickey Turner of Chandler-Gilbert Community College; Carla DiCarlo and Christina Clark of Estrella Mountain Community College; Karen Saltzman and Tanya Orick of GateWay Community College; Tom Zarrelli and Stephanie Rimbey of Paradise Valley Community College; Cora Moss and Elma Angie of Rio Salado Community College; Elizabeth Edwards and Michael Tupponce of Scottsdale Community College; Erika Gonzalez and Felicia Perez of Glendale Community College; Tina Sunborn and Janet Staples of Mesa Community College; Keola McCray of Phoenix College; and Santos Copus-Sallas and Sharon Lehman of South Mountain Community College.

Largesse, Inc., a specialty-clothing store dedicated to women sizes 14-26, will be closing June 1, due to changing retail sales and personal health. All merchandise is now being sold at 30 percent off. Largesse, Inc. is located at Scottsdale Road and McDonald Drive in Scottsdale.

John C. Gemmill, an owner and director of the law firm Sanders & Parks, has been appointed by Gov. Jane Hull as a judge in the Arizona Court of Appeals.

The Phoenix-based national headquarters of Sofin, Incorporated opened Friday, April 13, at 5050 N. 40th St., Suite 190, Phoenix.

Shelly Johnson and Jennifer Blank-Matney are the new co-chairwomen for the sixth annual Women of Distinction Gala.

The City of Chandler's Department of Communications and Public Affairs has won the Award of Distinction in the "Advertorial" and "Special Event" categories of the Communicator Awards. Chandler also received an honorable mention in the "Publication" category. The Communicator Awards is a national competition to recognize companies in the communications field whose talents serve as a standard for the industry.

Seven Arizona high school seniors have been selected as semifinalists for the 2001 Presidential Scholars Program for their academic achievements. The semifinalists are Rakesh Ahuja, Brophy College Preparatory; Xuemei Cai, Catalina Foothills High School; Kelly Devereaux, Chaparral High School; Chang Liu, University High School; Jill Penney, Xavier College Preparatory; Shira Pinnas, University High School; and Katherine Wu, Dobson High School.

The Maricopa Institute for Learning named fellows for the 2001-2002 academic year. The fellows are Scott Adamson, Debbie Anderson, John Gibson, Sian Proctor, Nancy Siefer and Elizabeth Skinner.
