Valley observances

A Yom Hashoah Commemoration will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, April 22, at Har Zion Congregation, 6140 E. Thunderbird Road, Phoenix.

The theme is "Remembering the Past for the Sake of the Future" and is organized by The Phoenix Holocaust Survivors' Association with the participation of the Bureau of Jewish Education.

A commemoration and memorial service will be held 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, at Temple Emanuel, 5801 S. Rural Road, Tempe.

The service is sponsored by Emanuel, Temple Beth Sholom and the Tri-City Jewish Community Center.

A panel discussion about Yom Hashoah sponsored by the Greater Phoenix Community Kollel-Torah Mitzion will take place 7-7:45 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, at Beth Joseph Congregation, 515 E. Bethany Home Road, Phoenix.

The discussion, with the topic "Passing on the Tradition of Remembering the Holocaust to Future Generations," will be followed by a movie from 8-10 p.m.

A Holocaust remembrance service sponsored by the Sun Cities Area Ministerial Association, Temple Beth Shalom of the Northwest Valley and Beth Emeth Congregation will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, April 19, at Shepherd of the Hills United Methodist Church in Sun City West.

Betty Schimmel, national speaker and author of "To See You Again" will speak about her experiences during the Holocaust.

Guest speakers will be Paul Weiser, assistant regional director of the Anti-Defamation League and a Mandel Fellow of the U.S. Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C., and Arnie Wininger of the alliance.
