Obituaries

Mitchell Sorkin

Mitchell Edward Sorkin of Scottsdale died March 10, 2001. He was 28. He was born in Highland Park, Ill., and moved to Arizona three years ago. He was a college student.

Survivors include his parents, Ellen and Robert; and sisters, Kimberly Hough and Ilissa Greenberg.

Services were held at Sinai Mortuary Chapel. Arrangements were by Sinai Mortuary.



Emanuel Finkleman

Emanuel Marcus Finkleman of Winnipeg, Manitoba, died March 21, 2001. He was 92. He was the father of Nancy Hollenberg and Janis Harris, both of Phoenix. He was born in Winnipeg and was employed as an optometrist. He was a governor of the National Theatre School of Canada, a member of the board of the National Arts Centre, and a member of the Jewish Historical Society, the University of Manitoba Alumni Association and Sigma Alpha Mu.

Other survivors include six grandchildren.

Services were held in Canada. Arrangements were by Shaarey Zedek Memorial Park in Winnipeg.

Lee Neuwirth

Lee Neuwirth of Longmont, Colo., died March 26, 2001. He was 54. He was the son of Fanny Schlomowitz of Phoenix. He was born in Germany and was employed as an engineer.

Other survivors include his sons, Michael and Christopher, both of Longmont; and sisters, Toby Weinstein and Erika Morgenstern, both of Phoenix.

Services were held in Denver. Arrangements were by Feldman Mortuary.



Debra Berger

Debra N. Berger of Scottsdale died March 27, 2001. She was 51. She was born in Columbus, Ohio, and moved to Arizona 14 years ago. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Howard; and sister, Luona Shuman of Phoenix.

Services were held at Paradise Memorial Gardens. Arrangements were by Sinai Mortuary. Contributions are suggested to International Foundation for Anti-Cancer Research, 27 W. Morten Ave., Phoenix 85021.



David Mindlin

David Mindlin of Phoenix died March 29, 2001. He was 78. He was born in Franklin, N.J., and moved Arizona 37 years ago. He was a retired investment counselor and served in the United States Navy in World War II. He was a member of the Masonic Society, Jewish American War Veterans, American Legion and B'nai B'rith, and a past member of Beth El Congregation.

Survivors include his sons, Bruce of Mesa and Samuel of Phoenix; brothers, Edward and Cecil, both of Franklin; and three grandchildren.

Services were held at Beth El Cemetery with Rabbi Michael Wasserman officiating. Arrangements were by Sinai Mortuary. Contributions are suggested to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix 85014.



Hannah Glasser

Hannah L. Glasser of Scottsdale died March 30, 2001. She was 80. She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and moved to Arizona 14 years ago. She was a volunteer for Scottsdale Healthcare Shea Hospital.

Survivors include her daughter, Joyce of Missoula, Mont.; sons, Allan Weinstein of Scottsdale and Michael of New Orleans; brother, Leon Broidy of San Francisco; and four grandchildren.

Services were held at Paradise Memorial Gardens with Rabbi Maynard Bell officiating. Arrangements were by Sinai Mortuary. Contributions are suggested to Temple Solel, 6805 E. McDonald Drive, Paradise Valley 85253; or American Heart Association, 2929 S. 48th St., Tempe 85282.



Samuel Mallin

Samuel Mallin, age 97, formerly of Phoenix passed away Tuesday, April 3, 2001, at his home in Cameron, Oklahoma. He was born in Russia and was a forty five year resident of Phoenix. He served in the US Navy during WWII, he was a member of Beth El Congregation and a partner in Mallin Brothers Foundry of Phoenix. Survivors include his daughter Nancy (Dirk) Gaither of Cameron, OK, four grandchildren and three great grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by his wife Estelle, and his brothers Benjamin, Edward, Max and Sol and sister Rose Lewis. Graveside funeral services were held Friday April 6, 2001. Contributions in his memory are requested to Beth El Congregation, 1118 West Glendale Avenue. Phoenix, Arizona 85021. Arrangements by Sinai Mortuary.
