YLD offers 'Mitzvah Day'

Mitzvah day, originally scheduled for April 1 by the Jewish Community Relations Council of the Jewish Federation of Greater Phoenix, has been postponed. However, the Young Leadership Division of federation is sponsoring a scaled-down version, 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Sunday, April 1, at Kivel Campus of Care's Blehart Building, 3020 N. 36th St., Phoenix.

Make a Difference, a Valley volunteer organization, scheduled Make a Difference Day for Saturday, March 31, said Tami Schultz, director of the JCRC.

Projects secured in the past were already scheduled by Make a Difference, she said.

The JCRC is currently rescheduling Mitzvah Day. JCRC handed over a handful of projects scheduled to YLD, said Schultz.

"They are happy to open it up to the greater community," she added.

The following projects will take place at Kivel Geriatric Center:

Donate blood to the American Red Cross, 8:15 a.m.-12:15 p.m. For eligibility questions, call 1-800-GIVELIFE. Forty volunteers are needed to make sandwiches for St. Vincent de Paul's Homeless Shelter, 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Thirty volunteers are needed to plant flowers in Kivel's flower bed, 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Sort toiletries collected at the United Jewish Communities Western Regional Conference from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m., to be donated to Kivel, Jewish Family and Children's Service and Thomas Pappas School.

To attend, call Kate Tiffany, 602-274-1800, ext. 147 or e-mail, mtiffany@jewishphoenix.org. T-shirts will be available to the first 100 people who RSVP.
