Obituaries

Myer Greene

Myer Greene of Sun City died March 12, 2001. He was 93. He was born in Lowell, Mass., and moved to Arizona from Maine in 1978. He was president of Lewiston Hardware & Supply Co. and retired in 1974. He was a member of Temple Beth Shalom and Jewish Community Center of the Northwest Valley in Sun City, Temple Shalom in Auburn, Maine, Temple Beth Jacob in Auburn, Maine, and a 50-year member of the Masons. He was active in the Jewish Federation of Greater Phoenix/Sun City Division.

Survivors include his daughter, Nancy Milstein of Bethesda, Md.; sister, Esta Mandell of Sun City; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services were held at Temple Beth Shalom. Arrangements were by Sunland Mortuary.



Jeannette K. Multer

Jeannette K. Multer, 90, passed away March 11, 2001 in Los Angeles. She lived in Phoenix with her late husband Herman D. for more than 50 years. Both had been active members of the community. She had been employed for more than 10 years in the Arizona State Dept. of Public Instruction, both in Teacher's Certification and as Director of the School Lunch Program. In 1955, she opened a bookstore, "The Dolphin" in Uptown Plaza, the first mall in Phoenix. She opened a second bookstore, "Multers" on Main Street in Scottsdale in 1959. She retired in 1964. From 1959 through 1964, Mrs. Multer was Chairperson of a weekly series of book reviews that were co-sponsored by the Scottsdale Public Library. During that time, she and Maggie Savoy, Editor of the Woman's Page of the Arizona Republic, started the series of Book and Author's Luncheons. Mrs. Multer moved to LA in 1990. Survivors include her daughter Stephanie Multer Goor of Los Angeles and 4 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Contributions in her memory are requested to Los Angeles Public Library Foundation, 630 W. 5th St., Los Angeles, CA 90071. Graveside funeral services were held March 14th at Beth Israel Cemetery in Phoenix. Arrangements by Sinai Mortuary.
