Rabbi Peter Levi has been hired as associate rabbi at Temple Chai in Phoenix.

Levi, who will start his new position on July 1, has been a rabbi at Wilshire Boulevard Temple, a Reform congregation in Los Angeles, for three years, said Rabbi William Berk of Temple Chai.

Levi, 37, and his wife Ruth have a son, Elijah, and are expecting a second child this month.

Levi's responsibilities will include teaching Torah to adults and children, leading services, officiating at bar and bat mitzvah ceremonies, developing innovative programming for young couples and singles and working with conversion students, Berk said.

Levi will also be involved with the temple's retreat program, social action and outreach programs and the family school.

Rabbi Lisa Tzur, currently a full-time associate rabbi at the temple, will move to part-time in July.

"We're thrilled and delighted (about Levi's arrival)," Berk said. "He's already started meeting with our team and fits in beautifully, and we can't wait for him to get here."
