Local synagogues schedule Passover events

As Jews around the Valley anticipate Passover, several synagogues are offering programs to prepare for and celebrate the holiday.



Temple Chai will hold a Passover Outreach Workshop 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 22, at the temple, 4645 E. Marilyn Road, Phoenix.

Attendees will learn how to make charoset, set the Passover table, make gefilte fish, keep children at the table and more.

The event is adults only and guests are asked to bring a dairy finger food. Call 602-971-1234.

Chabad of the West Valley will have a "Passover Experience" 2-4 p.m. Sunday, March 25, at the Glendale Public Library-Foothills Branch, 19055 N. 57th Ave.

The program features a matzo bakery where participants can bake their own matzo, a video theater featuring educational Passover productions, and an arts and crafts workshop. All participants will receive a matzo baker's hat and apron and a matzo.

Cost is $6 for adults and $5 for children and students.

Temple Emanuel will hold an interfaith seder 6:30 p.m. Monday, March 26, at the temple, 5801 S. Rural Road, Tempe.

Rabbi Straus will tell the story of Passover and teach the traditions, prayers and songs of the holidays. A full meal will be served, including brisket, gefilte fish, tzimmes and matzo ball soup.

Reservations are required by March 19 and space is limited. Cost for members is $10 for adults and $5 for children. Cost for nonmembers is $12 for adults and $6 for children. Call 480-838-1414.



AVIV's annual seder will be held 6 p.m. Sunday, April 8. Cost is $25 for members, $35 for guests, $15 for children ages 5-13 and free for children under 5. Reservations are required before April 4.

AVIV of Arizona is an organization for the Jewish gay, lesbian and bi community.

Temple Beth Shalom will hold a Passover seder 5:30 p.m. Saturday, April 7, at the temple, 12202 101st Ave., Sun City.

A complete Passover dinner with an entree of chicken will be served. Cost for members and their guests is $29, nonmembers $39. Children under 12 are half price. Reservations are required by March 26. Call 623-977-3240.
