Alisa Berman recently joined the staff of the Jewish News as special sections editor. She previously worked as managing editor at Phoenix-based Virgo Publishing.

Two GateWay Community College students, Tonya Orick and Beth Saltzman, have been selected for the 2001 All-Arizona Academic Teams, a competition that recognizes outstanding community college students for their commitment to education and community service.

Michelle Gorman has been named director of Fry's and Fry's Marketplace Dietitian Program. Gorman will hold tours and courses that will incorporate seasonal celebrations with recipes focusing on healthy eating and grocery-shopping hints.

AlpernLehman, a Scottsdale-based marketing communications firm, has signed with Breitfeld & Schliekert, a German optical tool manufacturer. AlpernLehman will handle the entry of the international company into the U.S. market.

Dick and Thelma Rea have resumed ownership of Cooper's Children's Shoes, at Arrowhead Towne Center in Glendale, after a three-year interlude under another proprietor.
