Obituaries

Bernice Weinstein

Bernice Weinstein of Scottsdale died Feb. 12, 2001. She was 77. She was born in Detroit and moved to Arizona 15 years ago. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Abraham; sons, Neal Weinstein and Elliot Salk, both of Scottsdale; sister, Nettie Brenner of Southfield, Mich.; brother, Marvin Goldstein of Farmington Hills, Mich.; and four grandchildren.

Services were held at Green Acres Cemetery, with Hazzan Devin Goldenberg officiating. Arrangements were by Sinai Mortuary. Contributions are suggested to Har Zion Congregation, 6140 E. Thunderbird Road, Scottsdale 85224.



Leonard Tonkin

Leonard G. Tonkin of Gilbert died Feb. 13, 2001. He was 84. He was born in Montgomery Township, N.J., and moved to Arizona five years ago from California. He was a retired merchant, served in the U.S. Navy in World War II and was a member of Jewish War Veterans.

Survivors include his wife, Sylvia; daughter, Sharlene Wach of Mesa; sons, Ronald of Houston and Gary of Mesa; sister, Marjorie Silverman of Somerville, N.J.; brother, Allen of Arroyo Grande, Calif.; and four grandchildren.

Services were held at Paradise Memorial Gardens. Arrangements were by Sinai Mortuary. Contributions are suggested to Arizona Heart Institute & Research Foundation, 2632 N. 20th St., Phoenix 85006.



Adeline Secore

Adeline Secore of Phoenix died Feb. 14, 2001. She was a former resident of Oak Park, Ill., and Lakeside, Mich..

Survivors include her sons, Wayne of Dallas and Earl of Phoenix; and four grandchildren.

Services were held in Chicago. Contributions are suggested to Kivel Campus of Care, 3040 N. 36th St., Phoenix 85018.



Sidney Green

Sidney Green of Phoenix died Feb. 16, 2001. He was 81. He was born in Chicago Heights, Ill., and moved to Arizona 48 years ago from Gary, Ind. He owned and operated Sid Green Seafood and was a member of Sunnyslope Eagles Lodge.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley; sons, Ron and Barry, both of Phoenix; and two grandchildren.

Services were held at Beth Israel Cemetery, with Rabbi Albert Plotkin officiating. Arrangements were by Sinai Mortuary. Contributions are suggested to American Heart Association, 2929 S. 48th St., Tempe 85282.



Harry Margolin

Harry Margolin of Scottsdale died Feb. 16, 2001. He was 75. He was born in Newark, N.J., and moved to Arizona 20 years ago. He was a retired manager of a plumbing supply store and served in the Army Air Corps during World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth; daughter, Michelle of Santa Clara, Calif.; sons, Aaron of Exeter, N.H., Barry of Candia, N.H., and Stephen of Boulder, Colo.

Services were held at Green Acres Chapel, with Cantor Andrew Mayer officiating. Arrangements were by Sinai Mortuary. Contributions are suggested to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix 85014.



Henry Berkowitz

Henry A. Berkowitz of Phoenix died Feb. 16, 2001. He was 58. He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and moved to Arizona 23 years ago. He was a retired route salesman and an avid bowler.

Survivors include his daughter, Nancy of Hawaii; sons, Ira of Phoenix and Jeff of Murrieta, Calif.; sister, Adele Morrison of Scottsdale; and one grandchild.

Services were held at Green Acres Cemetery. Arrangements were by Sinai Mortuary. Contributions are suggested to Jewish Family and Children's Service, 2033 N. Seventh Ave., Phoenix 85006.



Albert Flom

Albert Flom of Arizona and Toronto died Feb. 21, 2001. He was 80. He was born in Toronto. He was a retired automobile salesman and served in the Canadian Armed Forces in Europe in World War II. He was past president of Beth Hebrew Congregation and a life member of Beth El Congregation. Her served on the board of American Red Magen David Adom. He was chairman for Beth Hebrew Cemetery in Phoenix for over 20 years.

Survivors include his wife, Sylvia; daughter, Jeannette of Paradise Valley; sons, Jerry of Seal Beach, Calif., and Harold of Granada Hills, Calif.; sisters, Ann Langer, Lillian Weltman, Barbara Gilbert, Gertrude Truster and Dorothy Davis, all of Toronto; brothers, Art, Morris, Lou and Saulie, all of Toronto; and six grandchildren.

Services were held at Sinai Mortuary Chapel, with Rabbi Herbert Silberman officiating. Arrangements were by Sinai Mortuary. Contributions are suggested to American Red Magen David Adom, c/o Irving Horn, 1715 W. Claremont St., Phoenix 85015-2028.



Laura Goldenberg

Laura Goldenberg, 80, of White Plains, NY died on February 16th. Beloved mother of Michael, Gene and Hazzan Devin Goldenberg, Karen Shapiro and Idy Lanier. Cherished grandmother of Alex, David, Emily, Seth and Joshua Goldenberg, Elena and Max Shapiro, Daniel and Alison Lanier. Dear sister of William Whitehorn.

Services held at Temple Israel Center of White Plains were conducted by Rabbis Gordon Tucker, Neil Zuckerman, Shalom Ben Porat and Hazzanim Devin Goldenberg and Jacob Ben-Zion Mendelsohn. Rabbi Hirshhorn of the Hebrew Home for Aged of Riverdale also spoke. Burial was at the Sharon Gardens Cemetery in Valhalla, NY.

Jeanette Rubenstein

Jeanette Rubenstein, 80, of Golden Valley, MN died on February 18, 2001. Preceded in death by husband of 57 years, Samuel Rubenstein; parents, Isadore & Fanny Widetzky; brother, Robert Wade. Survived by daughters and son-in-law, Fredda and Rabbi Mark Bisman, Beth Rubenstein; son, David Rubenstein; grandchildren, Sarah Bisman and Aaron Bisman; sisters and brothers-in-law, Sylvia (Helen) & David Borken, Roz & Sid Bearman; brother, Hy Widetzky; sisters-in-law, Lillian Sakol, Ann Bregman; many nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews, and wonderful friends. Jeanette was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was an active member of Beth El Synagogue for over 50 years, including leadership roles in the Mr. & Mrs. Club, Women's League and youth activities. Special thanks to all of the wonderful caregivers at Allina Hospice, Quilted Care and Sholom Home West (2 North). Funeral services were held Tuesday February 20, at Beth El Synagogue, St. Louis Park, MN. Memorials preferred to the Jeanette & Samuel Rubenstein Fund of the Sholom Foundation, 3620 Phillips Pkwy., St. Louis Park, MN 55426; or the Beth El Synagogue Jeanette & Samuel Rubenstein Educational Fund, 5224 W. 26th St., St. Louis Park, MN 55416.
