Luger leaves Kivel

Matthew Luger, executive director of Kivel Campus of Care since 1995, has announced his resignation, effective March 10.

He has accepted the position of CEO for Covenant Health Network, a strategic alliance of 30 nursing homes located in Arizona, Colorado and New Mexico.

Luger joined Kivel's staff as a nursing home administrator in 1987. During his tenure, the number of skilled nursing beds has increased, several campus areas have been remodeled, and a Resident Quality of Life Enhancement Program that "looks for ways to make life for residents less institutional and more homelike," has received statewide recognition, he said.

Luger said that after operating facilities for 25 years, he looks forward to his new position, which he called "a natural growth opportunity for me within the long-term care field."

He will remain in Phoenix, and since Kivel is a member of the Covenant Health Network, Luger will still "have a tie-in and an interest in Kivel."

Kivel, which opened in 1958, currently serves nearly 500 seniors in its nursing homes and independent living apartments.

"I'm very proud of the facility and the staff," Luger said. "We've consistently been recognized as the premier long-term care facility in Arizona, and I think that's a credit to the staff."

Sol Moretsky, Kivel board president, has formed a search committee to fill the position and has found "some very, very competent, capable candidates," he said.
