Rabbi wanted in Sun Lakes
LEISAH NAMM
Staff Writer

Sun Lakes Jewish Congregation is searching for a new rabbi.
Rabbi Lester Frazin resigned from the position during Shabbat services Jan. 12.
Frazin has led monthly services at the congregation for about 3 1/2 years and said his resignation stems from politics within the congregation.
"I took a principled stand against slander and character assassination which did not involve me, but others," he said.
Frazin said he would still perform lifestyle ceremonies if asked. "If they call me, I'll go," he said.
Frazin was employed to lead the congregation's services and although in his final sermon he mentioned that the job carried "tremendous expectations," he said that was not the main reason he resigned. "It has very little to do with me," he said.
Cantor Laura Eisenhart also resigned Jan 12.
The congregation, which began in the mid-80s, has about 500 members. On average, 250 members attend the group's monthly Friday night service, said Marty Silverman, president of the congregation. Silverman, who said the resignations were unexpected, plans to lead the next service on Feb. 9.
Sun Lakes is a gated retirement community for adults over 40; members of the Reform congregation tend to be over 55. The majority of members live in Sun Lakes, although some live in surrounding areas.
The congregation also has a Passover seder, a break-the-fast meal and a Hanukkah dinner dance. Call 480-895-6917.
