Chabad of the East Valley is currently negotiating for a Chandler piece of land to build The Jewish Educational Center of the East Valley.
The vacant lot, about 2 1/2 acres, is one mile off Loop 101 and three miles off the 10 freeway, said Rabbi Mendy Deitsch of Chabad of the East Valley. He said he is unable to release the exact location at this time.
"The building will allow us to do so many things that we've been wanting to do all these years," he said.
Plans for the facility include a lending library for children to check out books and software games, a social hall, classrooms for Hebrew school, a lecture hall, administrative offices, a multipurpose room for youth and elderly programming and a kosher kitchen.
"The facility will benefit the entire community," Deitsch said. "Our philosophy is that we're open to everybody."
Deitsch, with his wife Shternie, started Chabad of the East Valley nearly 3 1/2 years ago. They run a Hebrew school at La Petite Academy in Chandler and hold Shabbat services in their home, which draw about 35-40 people each week.
Once the papers are finalized, building probably wouldn't start for about a year, Deitsch said, until necessary funds are raised.
"The community is really excited about it," Deitsch said. "We feel that this facility will benefit the community and bring the East Valley to another level."
