Obituaries

Selma Feldman

Selma "Dee" Feldman of Phoenix died Jan. 4, 2001. She was 81. She was born in St. Louis, and moved to Arizona 20 years ago from North Dakota. She was the owner and operator of a ladies' clothing store. She was active in Jewish Women International and a member and volunteer at Temple Beth Israel.

Survivors include her son, Jack of Chicago; and brothers, David and Leo Bornstein of St. Louis.

Services were held in North Dakota and Phoenix. Arrangements were by Sinai Mortuary. Contributions are suggested to Jewish Women International Phoenix Chapter, 11633 N. 23rd St., Phoenix 85028.



Frieda Schwartz

Frieda Schwartz of Phoenix died Jan. 4, 2001. She was 95. She was born in New York City and moved to Phoenix 62 years ago. She was a homemaker and a member of NA'AMAT, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, Eastern Star and Yanktze River Gunboat Patrol Association.

Survivors include her son, Arthur Sheppard of Phoenix; sister, Celia Tint of New York City; thirteen grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren.

Services were held at Sinai Mortuary Chapel, with Rabbi Martin Scharf officiating. Arrangements were by Sinai Mortuary. Contributions are suggested to Temple Beth Israel Chavarah Fund, 10460 N. 56th St., Scottsdale 85253.



Harriet Weisman

Harriet Weisman of Phoenix died Jan. 4, 2001. She was 76. She was born in Chicago and was a retired nurse.

Survivors include her daughters, Jude Sharp of Santa Clara, Calif., Honey Kimmel of Phoenix, and Sandy Weisman of Alexandria, Va.; sisters, Dorothy Patrick and Lillian Michaels; and two grandchildren.

Services were held at Beth El Cemetery, with Rabbi Andrew Straus officiating. Arrangements were by Sinai Mortuary. Contributions are suggested to The Gardiner Home, 1522 W. Myrtle Ave., Phoenix 85021.



Gertrude Rubin

Gertrude "Trudi" Rubin of Phoenix died Jan. 6, 2001. She was 87. She was born in Warsaw, Poland, and moved to Arizona 28 years ago from California. She enjoyed working with ceramics and loved the arts and music.

Survivors include her son, Paul of Santa Barbara, Calif.; and brothers, Jack Lemberg, Charlie Lemberg and Irving Lemberg.

Arrangements were by Sinai Mortuary.



Esther Tokman

Esther R. Tokman of Sun City died Jan. 6, 2001. She was 88. She was born in Minneapolis and moved to Arizona in 1977. She was a retired employee of Honeywell. She was a member of the Sew and Sew Club, Hadassah, Women's American ORT, the Honeywell Retirees Club and Temple Beth Shalom and Jewish Community Center of the Northwest Valley.

Survivors include a sister and a brother.

Arrangements were by Sunland Mortuary. Contributions are suggested to Hospice Services of the Sun Cities, 10404 Coggins Drive, Sun City 85351.



Samuel S. Lowenthal

Samuel S. Lowenthal, age 84, of Phoenix, passed away January 7, 2001 in Phoenix, AZ. He was born August 18, 1916 in Pittsburgh, PA., and came here from Columbus, OH 14 years ago where he was a Real Estate Broker. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the 391st Bomb Group of the Army Air Corps piloting B-26 aircraft. He is survived by his wife, Lona; two daughters, Carol H. (Jonathan) Smith of San Diego and Charlee L. (Jerry) Geisler of Scottsdale: and four grandchildren, Benjamin, Brant, Theodore and Dana. Also, a sister Lillian Taub and niece Claire Sharp, both of California. Graveside services were held January 9th at Green Acres Cemetery, 401 N. Hayden Rd., in Scottsdale. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to Hospice of The Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix, AZ 85014 or Temple Chai, 4645 E. Marilyn Rd., Phoenix, AZ 85032. Arrangements by Sinai Mortuary.



Samuel Soldinger

Samuel Soldinger, 76, loved by all who knew him, passed away on January 2, 2001. He was born in Krakow, Poland on August 28, 1924. He survived the horrors of the Holocaust, partially due to the righteous action of Oskar Schindler, who took him under his protection.

Survivors include his sons, David and Adam, daughter, Laura and grandson Paul.

Services were held at Sinai Mortuary Chapel on Thursday, January 4, 2001.
