Grant offers challenge

Probability has increased that the Ina Levine Jewish Community Campus capital campaign will soon meet its $25 million dollar fundraising goal.

The capital campaign received a $1 million challenge grant from the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation on Nov. 1.

The Jewish Federation of Greater Phoenix learned of the grant in early December but could not formally approve it until the Dec. 13 executive committee meeting, said Art Paikowsky, federation executive vice president.

The foundation agreed to match gifts pledged and collected for the campus from Nov. 1, 2000 through Nov. 1, 2002, dollar for dollar, Paikowsky said. The money will set up an endowment for the campus, to be built at Scottsdale Road and Sweetwater Avenue in Scottsdale.

No representative for the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation, based in Owings Mills, Md., was available for comment.

The Ina Levine Jewish Community Campus capital campaign has raised $23.8 million.
