Guide examines religion in school

"A Guide for Jewish Parents: Religious Issues in Your Child's Public School," a new publication by the Anti-Defamation League, deals with parents' frequently asked questions about religious symbolism that accompanies the holiday season.

Matters addressed include the constitutionality of prayer at public school activities, holiday symbols considered non-religious and deemed appropriate for classroom use by the courts, guidelines for religious clubs in public schools, and attendance awards that penalize students for absences due to religious observance.

The handbook is available at the ADL's Phoenix office, 602-274-0991, and online at www.adl.org.
