Israeli prof talks about peace"Can Israel Make Peace with the Palestinians" is the first of a six-lecture series of Shabbat discussions to be held after morning services and lunch on Saturday, Dec. 16, at Beth El Congregation, 1118 W. Glendale Ave., Phoenix.Guest speaker is Nathan Yanai, a visiting professor through the Plotkin Chair in Jewish Studies at Arizona State University. He teaches in the Land of Israel Studies and Political Science departments. The lecture will include the complexities of the historic conflict; the Palestinian change of attitude and Israel's response; the Oslo agreement; the dual orientation of the Palestinian Authority; Prime Minister Ehud Barak's drive for a comprehensive peace and the internal Israeli debate; and prospects for a negotiated settlement and enduring peace with the Palestinians.
