Several Valley synagogues commemorated Thanksgiving with interfaith services and food drives.

Ruach Hamidbar - Spirit of the Desert and Temple Kol Ami took part in a Nov. 22 service at St. Bernadette's Catholic Church in Scottsdale, along with Via de Cristo United Methodist Church, the Casa of the Catholic Church dancers, and Dr. Paul Eppinger, president of the Interfaith Council of Phoenix. Participants brought non-perishable food items for donation to local food banks.

Temple Emanuel of Tempe was among several religious groups joining in a Thanksgiving Ecumenical Service sponsored by the Tempe Emergency Assistance Ministry, at the LDS Tempe Stake Center.

Other congregations included the Dayspring United Methodist Church, the Desert Palm United Church of Christ, the Islamic Cultural Center and the Mission del Sol Presbyterian Church, among others. Collections went to benefit Tempe's homeless population.

Temple Beth Shalom of the Northwest Valley took part in an interfaith Thanksgiving Day service featuring Cantorial Soloist Baruch L. Koritan and held at The Sundome in Sun City West.

Sponsors were the Sun Cities Area Ministerial Association and the Del Webb Corporation. Canned foods were collected for the Westside Food Bank.

The Men's Club of the Sun Lakes Jewish Congregation sponsored a Thanksgiving turkey drive that delivered 6,135 pounds of turkey to the Paz de Cristo Community Center, with the help of Muriel and Milton Gross. When the Grosses recently celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary and 80th birthdays at the Camelback Inn, they asked family and friends attending to donate to the turkey fund.
