Klezmatics bring klezmer music to life

The Klezmatics, touted as the planet's radical Jewish-roots band, present a Hanukkah program 5 p.m. and again at 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, at Scottsdale Center for the Arts, 7380 E. Second St.

The September 1996 issue of Rhythm Music magazine says The Klezmatics "have been able to blend the unwieldy issues of contemporary life - their interest in other ethnic and popular music, political activism, their sexuality, their faith and their inclusive inclinations - into a personal, iconoclastic identity that nonetheless honors the tradition of klezmer."

Sponsors are Jewish News of Greater Phoenix and KJZZ-91.5 FM.

Tickets are $30. Call 480-994-ARTS.
