Temple Chai hopes to hire a full-time associate rabbi by summer 2001.
Rabbi Lisa Tzur, the synagogue's current associate rabbi, has opted to spend more time with her family and will assume part-time status next summer, according to an Oct. 16 letter sent to Chai members.
A rabbinic search committee has been formed and hopes to have somebody in place by July, said Temple Chai Rabbi William Berk.
Tzur joined the temple staff in July 1997.
Cantor Sharona Feller, who has been with the synagogue since 1984, also has decided to move from full- to part-time next summer to spend more time with her family, Feller said.
"The bottom line really has to do with personal decisions to spend more time with family and children, and I very much honor their decision," Berk said.
"They're both doing great work and they'll be missed, but we're also very thrilled that they're continuing - that they did not make the decision to totally leave their work, but to continue part-time," he said.
"We look forward to many more years of having their help around here."
