Valley residents have a second chance to express their solidarity with Israel.

The Jewish Federation of Greater Phoenix has planned another Israel solidarity rally 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 29, at Temple Chai, 4645 E. Marilyn Road, Phoenix.

"You'd be hard-pressed to say the situation in the Middle East is any less tense now than the first time," said Art Paikowsky, federation's executive vice president.

More than 300 people attended the first rally Oct. 12 at Wesley Bolin Plaza in downtown Phoenix.

"The first time we felt like we needed to strike quickly," said Paikowsky.

The Oct. 29 rally will start as a Temple Chai networking business expo is ending. Paikowsky encouraged those attending the expo to go to the rally afterward.

Federation has invited Valley congregations to bring religious school students and their parents and is contacting local Jewish organizations.

"We need to keep letting the Phoenix community know we're concerned," he said.

Rally speakers will include: Rick Naimark, chairman of the federation's Jewish Community Relations Council; Rev. Steve Grosvenor of Phoenix Christian Assembly; and Joan Mollen, chairwoman of federation's Israel office.

Also, the choirs from The King David School, Phoenix Hebrew Academy and the Pardes School will sing "Hatikva," the Israeli national anthem.

In a further development, Valley residents are planning to join in a United Jewish Communities solidarity mission to Israel, Oct. 29- Nov. 3.

"We are going to let (the Israelis) know the Jewish population in America supports them," said federation P resident Lanny Lahr. "That will give them moral support."

The delegation includes Paikowsky; Lahr; Herb Sperber; Jay Schechter, headmaster of the Jess Schwartz Community High School; Rabbi Bill Berk of Temple Chai in Phoenix; and Mim Bottner, federation board member.

During the visit to Israel, Phoenix mission-goers will meet with Valley high school and college students currently studying in Israel.
