Group provides support for elders dealing with loss

"Sustaining our Spirits: A Discussion and Support Group for Divorced, Separated and Widowed Jewish Elders" will meet 7-8:30 p.m. the second and fourth Thursdays of each month in the youth lounge of Temple Chai, 4645 E. Marilyn Road, Phoenix.

The program, run by The Shalom Center at Temple Chai, is for individuals over age 55 who are dealing with divorce, separation or loss of a spouse. It is designed for people who are past their immediate grief and want to rebuild their lives within a supportive and caring Jewish community.

The program addresses the needs of elders, emphasizing independence and strength through social support, positive reinforcement, the setting of realistic goals for the future and healing through Jewish wisdom and teachings.

Lois Goldblatt, M.S., a faculty associate in Family and Human Development at Arizona State University, will facilitate the group.

The new program is partially funded by the Jewish Women's Endowment Fund of the Jewish Community Foundation.

Call Sharona Silverman, 602-971-1234.
