Grants totaling $25,000 have been awarded to 14 organizations by The Jewish Community Foundation of Greater Prescott.

The first-ever foundation awards were made at a Sept. 19 luncheon in Prescott.

JCF was formed in 1999 to support cultural and social needs of the region's Jewish community and to "do what Jewish communities have always done - try to make the place in which we live a better place for all," said Harold Greenberg, JCF president.
Temple B'rith Shalom of Prescott received $5,000 for Torah restoration, family and youth programs and charitable activities.

Faith House, an organization that provides emergency shelter to women and children who are victims of domestic violence or sexual assault, received $3,000 to complete handicapped-accessible transitional apartments.

Project Aware, a shelter for homeless men, was granted $2,500 to help build a shed for storing and sorting used books between book sales.

Child Haven, which provides care for children ages birth-6, received $2,400 toward staff costs associated with placing children and recruiting, training and licensing volunteers.

A grant of $2,000 was given to Turning Point, a crisis center and shelter for youths. The funds will provide air conditioning for a new shelter.

Youth Count received a $1,800 grant to provide cholarships for teens, young adults and seniors to attend a diversity retreat.

Grants of $1,000 were awarded to Chino Valley Food Bank, Prescott Area Information and Referral Services, Prescott People Who Care, St. Vincent De Paul, West Yavapai Guidance Clinic, Yavapai Exceptional Industries, Yavapai Food Bank and Yavapai HIV/AIDS Action.

JCF was founded by leaders of Temple B'rith Shalom, with the support and counsel of Rabbi William Berkowitz. It provides a vehicle for individuals to make tax-exempt donations, bequests and endowments.
