Congregation, community mourn death of Rabbi LouisRabbi Ted Louis of Glendale died Sept. 9, 2000. He was 48.Louis had been the rabbi at Temple Beth Emeth of Scottsdale since December. He was born in Chicago and moved to Arizona 22 years ago from New York. Louis received rabbinical training at St. Louis Rabbinical College and served as a rabbi of Nusach H'ari West in St. Louis for three years. After moving to the Valley, he and his wife established Louis Surplus, a surplus brokerage business, and were active in Shaarei Tzedek in Phoenix. Survivors include his wife, Terry; and sons Ari, 17, and Danny, 15. Services were held Sept. 11 at Sinai Mortuary Chapel, with Rabbi David Rebibo officiating. Arrangements were by Sinai Mortuary. Beth Emeth hired Louis as a part-time rabbi, but he worked as if it were a full-time position, said Sandy Stein, president of Beth Emeth. Besides leading services, he visited the sick and served the synagogue in other ways, she said. "He was one of the friendliest, nicest people you can hope to meet. He did over and above the call of duty," said Stein. "It's a tremendous loss, with 'tremendous' underlined three times." Contributions are suggested to Simon Wiesenthal Center, 9760 W.
