Support campaign

Editor:
I recently went to Tucson to watch my two teenage grandchildren compete in the Maccabi Games.

It was exciting to attend the opening ceremonies at the Tucson Jewish Community Center and see 300 Jewish teens walk in when their city's name was called.

The JCC was busy with all kinds of competitions and social events.

A viable JCC for current and future generations can also be a reality in Phoenix if we support the Jewish Community Campus building fund.

Let Pollard go

Editor:
Can someone explain to me why vice presidential candidate, Sen. Joseph Lieberman, who wears his Jewishness on his sleeve, would go out of his way to sign a 1999 letter to President Clinton urging him not to pardon Jonathan Pollard, the former U.S. Navy Intelligence analyst who is currently serving a life sentence in prison for spying for Israel?

Pollard has been punished enough. Let him go.

Name calling

Editor:
I have difficulty in distinguishing between the "fervently" Orthodox and (regular) Orthodox designations. The latter may only condone and enable vandalism of their more radical brethren with their support, while they "would never dream of ever committing such a crime" themselves. However, the results will be the same.

I doubt, whether the financial support or moral encouragement these more fervent vigilantes may receive from their "moderate well-wishers" will make any difference to the targets or victims. It is the vote in the Kneset that will ultimately count.

To quote Yogi Berra, "It is déja vu all over again."
